Chapter 1 Semester 1
Summary- This chapter speaks of the basic workings and components of
Section one reviews the parts of a PC putting an emphasis on the NIC
and inforamtion flow.
Information is sent from sources such as the RAM, ROM, CD-ROM drive, and
Floppy drive through the bus, the wires connecting different parts of the
computer, in order to perform a function.
RAM holds information only while the computer is on, and ROM is used to
store information after the power is turned off.
The NIC (Network Interface Card) is a printed circuit board that allows
a PC network communication capabilities. It connects to the computer
with a parellel connection and to the network with a serial connection.
The IRQ (interrupt request line) of a NIC is a signal that inform the cpu
that something that requires its attention has happened.
